My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

WORLDWIDE | Monday, 15 October 2012 | Views [268] | Scholarship Entry

What has inspired such a subject is a deep root in the heritage I come from Laos. I only can wonder and imagine what life would have been like had I not come to live in America. The passions and hope that brew inside my heart is to travel back to my homeland, as well as different parts of the world to discover and learn how can I help if not document what life is like there. The experience that I have in film making has developed from a interest as a fourth grader taking a class through a program called T.A.G., which stands for "Talented and Gifted", a selection program for a limited amount of students. As technology has advanced I have been able to eventually start filming with VHS camcorders, to Hi-8mm, DVC's, Television cameras, and now DSLR's. I have graduated with a photography degree in 2004. Compositionally filmmaking and being a presenter it is a vehicle that showcases social scenarios, and through story may hopefully allow viewers to become active in some way to make a difference in what they have seen or in their own community. Winning this scholarship would be a dream come true. This would be a great chapter in developing the filming with the encouragement of a mentor.
