Wow! Our last full day in Roma. As we headed toward the Vaticano we were among huge crowds. Discovered that at 12 the Pope would be offering his Sunday blessing. We stayed for a short while but, sadly, couldn't understand a word he said. Our original plan for the day had been to look through Castel Sant'Angelo. The first Sunday of the month is free entry. Fortunately we beat the crowds before they all left St Peters and headed in that direction. The castle was once a refuge for the Pope in times of strife with an underground tunnel connecting it to the Vatican. It has had many uses over the centuries and is currently a museum filled with art, old and not so old. The ceilings and walls are filled with murals and carvings, at least as beautiful as many we've seen throughout our journey through Europe.
Heading back through Prati we found a spot for, what will have been, our last Roman pasta meal. Totally delicious! We strolled back to our apartment to make ready for our departure tomorrow.
