My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Friday, September 9, 2011 | 5 photos
First three photographs were taken for my documentary photography course to record the community culture outside of the university. I decided to work on the culture of North Carolinian barbecue, as it has become one of the strongest symbols I have associated with the state of North Carolina where I have lived for almost ten years. Throughout the semester, the project has given me a tremendous experience as I travelled from Chapel Hill to a more distant area of Eastern North Carolina with my camera and recorder. It even gave me some bitter pride as I visited rural areas for my final spring break while others would spend their times in exotic places like Cancun or London. I believed my choice had set me apart and made me prouder than those who I would normally have envied.
Next two photographs were taken for personal desire to horn my skills. I wished to engage in all possible opportunities I can have with photography.
Through this scholarship, I wish to enhance my ability in the field of photography, but also fill in my desire to broaden my experience to witness the world I have never ventured to. I am aware of the high reputation that National Geographic Channel and WorldNomads carry. I hope you will give me the privilege of continuing my dream at your fine institution.
