Sweet Home Alabama

USA | Thursday, 1 February 2007 | Views [506]

Today we surfed in Alabama! Thats right people, Alabama! I figured that there may be some small waves as it is in the gulf but NOeeee, we scored head hight super fun waves, and even offshore winds in the arvo! Surfed with alotta local fellas, who were killing it out there! So from the surf we headed home, showered up, chucked some warm dry threads on and headed over to Chad’s house. He’s a Louisiana boy thru & thru, and if all works out he’s gonna meet us in New Orleans and give us a tour with all his mates! So Chad and his lovely wife cooked up heaps of crawfish (yabbies) and king shrimp (prawns) for everyone (Chuck, Dave, Johnie, John, Corry and the rest of em) to enjoy. After chilling out there for a while we thought what better Alabama experience is there than going to the local pub, ‘mudbugs’ to see Dave’s friend Billy play the gee-tar! Well within 2 minutes of walking thru the door Jonno and myself were up on stage singing along to Sweet Home Alabama, definitely one of the funniest experiences of the trip! Billy didn’t think that was enough for us tho, so he started playing ‘Land Down Under’ for Jonno and I to rock it out to! Then steps up one of the bartenders and sings/dances ‘These boots are made for walking’ which was “dedicated to the Australian surfers”. Great day with Awesome people! Gotta love Sweet Home Alabama! Hoorroo Cockatoo! Steefaan & Jownow We surfed the next day as the swell hung around which was AMAZING - and the MOBILE NEWS came out to film!
