A brief stop in Rome
ITALY | Tuesday, 4 May 2010 | Views [308]
So I arrived in Rome on May Day, which happens to be one of the most important holidays in Italy. The place was PACKED. I went to the Pantheon, and it was a sea of people. The streets everywhere were swarming. The day I went to the Vatican Museum, in the Sistine Chapel the people were literally shoulder to shoulder. My favorite piece in Rome was Michelangelo's Pieta. I stood in front of it for a good half hour. Unfortunately it is behind a protective barrier because at some point in the past some psycho attacked it with a hammer. Followed closely behind that piece, though, is Bernini's angel studies, which are made of iron, straw, twigs, and clay. I loved how you can see the structure of the pieces, since they are starting to fall apart.
