My Scholarship entry - Morocco, a land of contrasts

I was born in a small town in Ontario, Canada. Growing up in the country, I loved getting lost in corn fields and picking frogs out of the nearby creek. I guess you could say I was an explorer from the start. My father who died when I was 7 had a secret passion for photography. I didn’t quite understand it or know how talented he was until I was older, but I always knew it was in my blood. I purchased my first used Minolta SLR for an intro course in B&W photography in 2004 and I was hooked. I decided to be bold and planned my first real trip abroad to Egypt in 2009. That trip fueled my drive to push further. Over the next 4 years I traveled to many exotic destinations in Africa, South America, Asia, Europe and Canada. I’ve learned about shooting in different conditions, mostly through trial and error. I would love the opportunity to learn from a professional like Jason Edwards, who can help me hone my skills, perfect my technique, and give me a different perspective on telling a story about a place. The world has many more places to explore and I believe that each place I visit and each photo I take helps me have a better understanding of the world.
