Small Town Vibes and Bright Lights

I jump out of the bed and walk out in the balcony. It’s a sunny day and the weather is desertic hot, just like home. All I see is skyscrapers and those extravagant fancy cars running at a speed of bullet, for as far as my sight reaches. No, I’m not at home anymore. I'm here. I’m in Dubai.
In an hour I’m sitting in a metro. Thrilled to begin my first day out of my own country, ever. There’s a woman sitting beside me talking over phone in what sounds like French. I look around and see. In this one compartment, I see people from all different nations, so unlike home.
Soon I get off at a station. I have lots of days to delve into the beaches, the malls or the main attractions of the city. Today I’ve decided to just aimlessly wander around and explore the streets. I reach a market and as I dig deeper into it, the lanes get narrower. I struggle to make my way through the crowd bustling in every direction. A slight hint of odd fragrance fills the air. I can hear some people bargaining in distance. This crowdy surroundings with no expensive cars, no riches, make me feel like I'm home again.
I keep walking, looking in amazement at this monstrous city packed with pedestrians, colorful posters hanging all around in impressive array. I don’t know how many hours I have spent strolling around this city. But the fading crimson of the sky tells me it’s going to be dark soon. In a while the sun sets with all its splendor behind the high rise, sky touching buildings. And the city changes it’s face. The glowing, shining, side of the city lights up. I walk besides a canal, the shimmering lights of the buildings ricocheting off the surface of water. It’s beautiful. It’s surreal. Am I in a movie? The cool breeze is blowing through my hair.I have never felt so incredible in my life. It's like a dream. I sit on the nearest bench, and just observe the panorama of this divine man made ambience, trying to capture every moment of it in my memory.
I want to remember this day forever, when I saw a middle class, tight-knitted, old fashioned and laid back side of this word class cosmopolitan city, which felt so much like home followed by the other side which was as beautiful, picturesque and vibrant but also strikingly sophisticated, glowing, multicultural, and thronging which may not feel like a home for this small town girl, but it sure is for those thousands of people living behind those curtained glass windows of those gleaming concrete jungles.
