My Scholarship entry - Life in the Shadows

USA | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | flickr photos

Over the past six years I have worked in the field of conservation in one capacity or another with the goal of having a positive impact on wildlife. Initially, this started with my career as a zookeeper, where I worked as a caretaker for a variety of species ranging from elephants to toads no bigger than a fingernail. More recently, this desire to conserve wildlife has taken me out into the world, where I have discovered my passion for photography. It is my hope to take my experiences with wildlife and travel into this new-found passion, applying it toward a career that not only brings attention to the many threats facing the natural world, but moves people to take action protecting it. This is the reason that I believe I should be awarded the travel photography scholarship. It would provide a professional mentorship from an excellent photographer who shares a common interest. I will readily admit that there are many things I have yet to learn about photography and I am thrilled at the possibility of furthering my knowledge through this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
