My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Greenland. I know how cold it is, how windy it is and how difficult it can be just to exist there. It’s the entire reason why I wanted to go. The deserts of Central Australia where I’ve lived and worked pushed me to explore the opposite extreme. I’ve walked and talked as a tour guide in temperatures of 49 degrees celsius around Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. The experience compelled me to fly each year to Tasmania in Australia’s south to spend weeks walking the mountains of the great south west wilderness where not only are the temperatures cooler but where the chance of wind, rain, mist and drizzle are highly sought after photographic conditions.
The last 2 years I have been to Alaska, Canada and New Zealand to once again seek out the opposite end of the thermal spectrum. Each time my thirst only grew, luckily, I was invited to join a ski expedition in Greenland, yes Greenland, I couldn’t believe it.
In debt from travelling for 9 months and needing to raise $10,000, I ate from dumpsters and worked everyday for 4 months including 118 hours over Christmas and new years 12/13. I willed myself to make my way there to be in the icy wilderness for the 14 day ski expedition.
