My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

WORLDWIDE | Monday, 23 April 2012 | Views [122] | Scholarship Entry

When I was 26 years old, life finally seemed to take regular forms. It was my second year after returning from Japan where I studied Japanese culture and language. Two years later, my Japanese alter-ego who was talking with me in my dreams and making it hard for me to get used to my old life in Serbia, died and wondered-off to a Shadow-land of ancestors.
Nevertheless, my new-old me returned to a glorious path of professional challenges, emotional victories and financial possibilities. It all would be perfect if it wasn’t so hopelessly boring.
Then I received interesting invitation to take vacation in one of my student’s house by the sea on Croatian island, Brac. As I am always ready to hit the road, a month later, I took holiday and went there with my friends.
On a very first day of my holiday I met those incredible locals who wanted to start life totally in accordance with nature. They started to build the house made of stone and wood, beautiful organic garden, bought goats and started growing olives. I joined them on a very first day of my holiday and stayed there for four years! They immediately became my family and I felt that we were creating something new and wonderful, something I was definitely missing in my post-Japanese, well-organized and regular life in Novi Sad. I spent next four years of my life in wilderness picking olives, collecting woods, fishing, sailing, swimming, diving, writing stories, building Eco-houses, organizing Eco-holidays and tours. Half of the year I was sleeping under the wide-opened sky full of stars that, together with the Moon, were looking upon my night-strolling soul. I became familiar with stones and the sea, with spirits of animals, with life-death cycles. I felt like some sort of eternal secret was whispered in my ears every time I was walking by vast and wild beaches and listened to murmur of beautiful and seductive Adriatic waves. I really become one with the nature.
