God has a sense of humour...
We all have this idea in our heads that we get to choose our own
calling or something which is evident by questions we ask each other
about what we want to do...
Honestly, that would be nice!
The questions; what do you want to do after school, or where do you
want to live when you get a job or where we want to be in the next ten
years assumes we have a choice in the matter. Usually one answers it by listing down all placesone could never live
.. or would love to live for example;
1.Lower Shire-Too humid , I would always be groomy.
2.Zomba- Boring, I wouldn't know what to do there.
3.Blantyre- Too Crowded. Alot of people are moving there already.
4.Mzuzu-Too Isolated. Market still in its infancy.
Everyone has a list of where they simply God calls you to where you
don't want to go and make you do things you don't want to do? What
happens when he is leading you to the one place you never wanted to
live?
After being at a specific place for a very long time, enjoying what
you do, and you thought God would live you there for a very long time,
he moves you to to somewhere you refused to go to. Its not that God
doesn't care if we've made a list about where we'll never go but he
sees beyond it; to our hearts, knowing he's trying to shape us to care
less about the list.
Tell God you don't want to go to the desert and I imagine you will
likely find yourself there within 5 years.
It seems a common thread in life to declare the things you will never
do and then ultimately end up doing them. None of us is different from
Jonah. God asked Jonah to one of those places he had in his list. And
Jonah went the other direction. Clearly his own way of telling God
"hey, you forgot about my list?"
But we're human and we are drawn to different people and places for
different reasons. I don't think God looks down on us for this.
Instead, God slowly gets us to see beyond ourselves, to a life where
serving him is the ultimate calling and the place matters little in
that calling.
Go ahead and write your list.Declare to God and the world all the
things you never want to do and don't feel called to do. Just know as
you write the list, you serve a God who has seemingly impossible
things, he wants to accomplish through you. He knows you are human,
you have preferences, strengths, weaknesses.Even still, God wants you
to serve with open hands, seeking adventure, pouring yourself into the
work he has set before you.
OH!! And he LOVES to ignore your list!!!
As Jeremiah 29V11 says; I know the plans I have for you!
Dont question it!Be Thankful!Even if it means he has put you in the
dry zone....
