Orphans of Haiti

Haiti | Tuesday, January 8, 2013 | 4 photos

Photography inspires emotions that cannot be denied crossing cultural & language barriers. An image can have many interpretations. And each one is valid. Photography is for all.
I was an art director in advertising for 10 years. But life got stale. I needed to influence people beyond telling them what cold medicine to buy. Then I stumbled upon the term humanitarian photographer. There it was, my new career.
I photograph the issues NGOs address. My advertising background helps me market these organizations in a thoughtful, provocative manner to raise more attention & funds.
I also want to share photography with those who have never held a camera before. I aim to hold a workshop with child slaves in Haiti, giving them a sense of identity & self-worth through photography.
This scholarship would teach me how to tell a complete story. Explore a corner of the world that is often stigmatized in the West. Capture the always-changing dessert landscape. Help a person sitting on the couch thumbing through a magazine connect to another on the other side of the world sitting on a rug weaving a basket. Winning the scholarship would quite simply change my life & those exposed to my photography.
