My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

South Africa | Thursday, June 13, 2013 | 5 photos

Hello there! Firstly thanks for viewing my journal, I appreciate your time and effort.

My name is Kyle Cullen, a South African national (turned nomad) who grew up in a somewhat hippy/non-conformist/tree-hugging family, which led to my childhood being filled with memories of game reserves, snake handling, angry rhinos, whisky-stealing bush babies and various other fun ventures. A self-confessed corporate slave I have spent my post high school years completing a degree in zoology part-time while working full time and years later, I'm still trying to utilize my qualification and break into the environmental sector but with not much success (thus far).

Photography has been a passion of mine since an ex-girlfriend convinced me that working on a cruise ship would be the perfect occupation, suffice to say things didn't work out on that front but after using a Nikon D300 for the first time I was never the same. A point and shoot thereafter could do little to satisfy my need for bigger focal lengths and better sensors. I've been trying to learn more ever since but as all budding photographers know, photography is an expensive hobby and I'm still saving for my 10-22mm (4 years later)
