My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Being able to take a photo, capturing an image that holds someones attention and making them stop and think, if only for a moment is my goal in photography.

The information overload of today, with so many instant images and messages, doesn't allow us to slow down much at all. But, we still are attracted to that perfect or interesting shot. We know when we see it and it does make us stop if only for a passing moment in our high speed society.

Maybe we don't know why this happens, for me it's like a 'time out' to study what has been captured, whether it's a place, a person, a landscape or something that resonates with a past memory.

I enjoy the technical aspect of photography and learning the limits with light and your camera. Being able to compose, and also timing of your shots, I believe, is just as important, if not more than the technical. A balance of these is what I strive for and there is no better learning than to keep taking photos and sharing your images.

If an opportunity comes along to take a workshop or scholarship, then that is where I can refine and focus a talent, I hope shows through in my sample of images in this application.
