My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

From a young age I developed a talent for photography after my mother gave me a Pentax K1000 as my first camera and I never stopped seeing the world through frames ever since. I believe photography, although increasingly swamped in the modern era, still remains one of the most powerful means of connecting to the human soul, due to the realism and immediacy of the medium.
Through university and my early career I studied and worked in moving image - as a video editor and film post-production technician, however discovered after some years that my body and sense of adventure yearns for more than to be locked up in a dark room all day. In 2011 I bought my first professional DSLR, and embarked on a journey to the far west of China, from where I'd been living & teaching English. Through two friends I met, I discovered about the events of radical construction development in Tibetan China, and saw this not only as a story worth capturing, but as a chance to develop myself more as a journalist and storyteller, through my natural abilities to connect with people and places.
My grand dream is to utilise media and storytelling as a platform for building a better world..
