About soulhappybonedeep
Transitioning from travelling for study abroad for 3 months or more at a time to whatever comes after graduation. I have studied abroad 3 times in the pursuit for my bachelor's degree in Sociology and Asian Studies, with a few summer long internships and short advenures in between. My journey technically began the summer after my freshman year of college when I flew to Tokyo (alone for the first time) and worked as an intern for an international nonprofit. After that I had my first study abroad experience in Seoul studying alternative education in South Korea as well as exploring Korean culture thorugh classes at Yonsei University. A few months and challenging home semester later I found myself again in Tokyo working with the same beautiful, inspiring team from my first summer and preparing for my next big study abroad adventure: a semester in Morocco and then another in Spain.
In Morocco I stayed with a loving family that made rabat my home for 2 months while studying immigration in the Moroccan context. I spent the last month doing independent research on street art in Morocco which involved hitchhiking and art galleries and compassionate kindness from random souls from Marrakech to the Saharan desert. After going home for a warm summer of rejuvination, hard work, and family love I went off to Spain to join the last study group of my undergraduate career. Mostly based in Madrid I reaffirmed my connection to Spanish and found revolutionary and protest art movements that made me question myself and my world even more than before. I made deep beautiful friendships with people from around the world and was blessed with another family that expanded my heart.
Finally, I spent the month after the programming wandering with the little money (or negative money towards the very end) that I had left and diving into strong and visceral friendships that taught me more about the world in an hour of drunk conversations than many history classes I had taken before. In Paris I felt the terror of not having a roof to protect me from the freezing night, the deep gratitude and humbling feeling of being offered a home in that moment, and our responsibility to others around us to open our homes and hearts to people that just need someone to be there for them. I wrote poems and read old novels, and attempted some broken French before heading to Prague and spending Christmas in a cozy breakfast with strangers from everywhere.
My last memories are of a 2 week adventure through Italy with my best friend featuring a colosseum lit up by New Years Eve fireworks and seriously the most amazing 4€ pizza that exists on this earth. A lot of my stories are form one ormore of these adventures, or of connections between people and cultures, or just heartwarming moments that remain with me no matter how much time has passed.
I hope this journal delights as much as it inspires, giving you more possibilities for your own adventures. My wish for me and all of us is that we tread lighter so as to better hear the love that is all around us in our travels, and in our everyday lives.
