My name is Imsouchivy and I am from Cambodia and photography is my passion. I was lucky enough to get a scholarship to leadership summer camp in India.
I have walked on a street everyday with my friend who understand the language and took some photos as well as interviewed them for 10 days. I interviewed people in variety of ages and the most interesting group was children who were 15 and below. I always get closed to the kids when I took their photos. Some of them were very shy yet some were very friendly. Everyone of them were more than happy to let me take their photos. One of the most important thing that I have learnt from them was “If you don’t have what you like, you’d better like what you have.”. Most of the children in the village that I visited there, were poor but everyone of them were very happy. The fact is they know how to enjoy their life and looking forward to tomorrow with hope. I can see their hope and their enthusiasm from their eyes. Sadly, they still live under poverty and did not have enough opportunity to explore their own potential and explore the world outside their village. It is also interesting to note that everyone of them have dream and they told me that they will achieve them when they grow up.
I have learnt a lot from this trip, both a better understanding about the culture and also my photography skills.I hope that I can learnt more if I am selected for this valuable scholarship. One thing about photography is that I really enjoy looking through the small viewfinder and see my own composition with people from different countries in it. I believe that I can express myself more through the photos and one day I hope that my photos can change the world perspective.
