The Nature of China

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, September 25, 2011 | 5 photos

These photos are who I am and what I love to do. I enjoy traveling and taking snaps of landscapes and the local community from that country.

I have previously studied tourism, but would love to become a travel photographer. I have had a passion for photography for quite some time. I am quite well travelled, and wherever I go, my camera comes with me. I feel the only real and truthful way people are able to express themselves is through photographs and that is why I love taking photos.

This year I went to China for a few weeks. This particular destination has been on my list of places to see for a long time. The people, culture and landscape have always intrigued me. Of all the cities I visited, I fell in love with Suzhou and Louyang. Seeing rivers streaming through the middle of quaint little villages, mud-brick houses and sweeping fields of green were just some of the things that I love about being somewhere I had not yet experienced.

Seeing and talking to the local people was a real eye-opener for me. They live such a different life, much harder than our own, yet are always willing to talk or help when needed. Some of the photos I took here were so emotive and will always have a special meaning for me.

I had the honor of being present at a photography shoot for a local couples wedding on the Great Wall. This really reinforced my love of photography. Interacting with the people, being involved in such a special and intimate gathering and having something so beautiful to remember the occasion by is such a wonderful feeling.

No matter where I am, I seek out that one shot that has the ability to wow, to astound, to take your breath away. I would love nothing more than to do that for the rest of my life, to provide glimpses of another world within our own.
