My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am a 21-year-old female student in my second year. I don’t consider myself to be all that intellectually and philosophically minded but I do know what I love, what my passions are, who I want to be and where I want to end up. I know that if I am to do anything in my life it has to be of purpose and importance to my morals and beliefs. I have to be able to put my whole heart into it and see that it is of worth. For this reason I am currently studying international development. I love learning about third world countries, the numerous amounts of issues in this world and how I can do my part to make a change for the better. I hope to be involved in aid work and allow my life to be one of pure service. I also have found a deep passion and excitement in capturing moments with my newly purchased canon550d. The photos that I love are the ones that tell a story. They allow you to not just see what is happening in the photo but more importantly feel and experience what is happening. Since I am not particularly good with my words, I find photos to be a great verbaliser of my thoughts and emotions. I love seeing something and finding new and different ways to capture it in my own individual way. My absolute dream in life would be to become a photojournalist. I would love nothing more than to travel the world, working in aid, and using my photos to raise awareness of issues and also capture the beauty that is still left in the world. For these reasons it would fill my heart with overwhelmingly huge excitement and joy to win a competition of this sort, to experience, learn and grow in my photography journey.
