My Scholarship entry - Post no bills

USA | Friday, November 7, 2014 | 4 photos

My name's Sophie Elizabeth Cheetham and I am currently a second year student, studying BA(hons) Photography at Leeds College of Art, UK. I first started watching National geographic when I was 2, as my mum would tend to the needs of the rest of my family. I was brought up with a flare for discovery and exploration, and I believe I gained this from my mum's mother. They were both born and raised in Guyana, South America and spent most of their time exploring the surroundings in which they grew up. Growing up I would listen to the stories they had to spare about travelling around South America and wished ever since I would be able to venture out there myself. I obtained my first camera (fisher price polaroid) when I was 6 and haven't been able to put the medium aside ever since. Using it to record wildlife, current events and the surroundings I have chosen to travel to, has become my gateway into the world. It is definitely my life's ambition to become a photographic contributor to the National Geographic and to travel to South America. Given the opportunity to obtain this scholarship, I will be on my way to becoming the storyteller I have always wanted to be.
