Once penned, each foal is restrained for examination. If they have white hoof markings or hairs, then they are not classified as purebred by the Exmoor Pony Society members on site. They are therefore valueless, and if they can not be adopted by the rescue centre, will be sent to the hunt kennels for meat. What they are trying to preserve with this practice, is the prehistoric appearence of the ancient breed.
