My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Tanzania | Saturday, January 12, 2013 | 5 photos

Hello! I’m a student at Princeton University in the States. I’m still trying to find my path in the world, but if I had the slightest notion that I could make it as a professional photographer, I would drop all my books in a heartbeat. Photography helps me slice time to preserve the whimsical joy and spontaneous beauty of life and earth, frozen against the rush of time. It excites me greatly that there is so much of the world to explore, and so much to learn about photography, from incorporating more layers of depth to framing more dynamic images, and I would be honored to begin this journey with a mentor like you.

My trip to Tanzania last winter was transcendental. From watching fishermen readying their nets in the serene calm of the morning, to soaring over breathtaking waterfalls and plains landscapes, I felt a sense of reverence and belonging to this place. And what truly astonished me was the wildlife--from hearing the course of the “circle of life” outside my tent one evening, to watching the doting concern a mother zebra had for her trembling foal, I was honored to observe and photograph these magnificent animals with respect and admiration.
