My Scholarship entry - Cat Island

Japan | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 5 photos

I've always dreamt of being a travel photographer. I'm a business student graduating from uni in 2 weeks, and though I'm expected to traipse into corporate employment, there's nothing I want more than to eschew the suit and become a nomad. I tried it for half a year and said wow, I could do this all the time. The adventure, the people, the stories - it's tiring, but it feels like proper living.

I'm curious about everything and I love stories. Most of all though, I love sharing stories. That's why travel photography. It's to capture a moment in time, and to share those moments with loved ones. To capture the colours and expressions that words sometimes don't suffice in describing.

Truth be told, I'm feeling more than a little hesitant submitting this entry, and there's a healthy dose of embarrassment too. As I said, it was a dream. I only equipped myself with an amateur camera two birthdays ago and it's obvious I have a long way to go before I can call my work any good - but this deadline was on my birthday, and I thought, heck, why not do this as a birthday dare.

This would be an amazing opportunity. Hell, even just writing this inspires me to do more. Thank you World Nomads
