Coffee Production In the Sierra Nevada's of Colombia

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Colombia | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

Why should I be chosen? Here's why: I am merely nineteen years old and I am a diving instructor with a life dedicated to travel photography and the ocean. At seventeen years old I decided I was going to go against the grain and follow the burning passion inside me to travel and photograph amongst my piers and parents skepticism. Four days after my eighteenth birthday, I boarded a plane alone; headed for Bangkok. That was the scariest day of my life; and probably one of my parents scariest days too. I walked through security and kept waving to them until I rounded the corner; rounding that corner my life changed, forever. I have since travelled solo with my camera throughout: Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia. My wish is to uncover the shark fin trade with a camera, Oman is a current hotbed of finning. Bring me one step closer to my dream; to unveil the cruelty of shark finning and to meet with a new culture once again. The photos I have provided document my experience volunteering on an organic coffee farm in Colombia. I hope they explain the beauty and the work involved in the area and the trade of coffee production. Thanks for reading.
