SokoCat-My life in Korea Hi, I'm Cat currently living and working in South Korea. Having just finished university I was warned by my friends that 'real life' would take about a year to start. I therefore decided I would do something different, travel and see the world.

Its a small world after all...

So I last wrote on Thursday...what has happened since Thursday? Well on Friday I taught my first lesson. It seemed to go quite well, the teacher observing me seemed suitabley impressed. I later learnt that one of the kids had had a problem understanding my British accent (the cheek!) I am a bit protective over my Englishness out here, seeing as though I am the only Brit in my department. Theres nothing I can do about my accent though, I am NOT putting on a pseudo American accent...for one thing I would be rubbish at it!

Saturday I had my first experience of downtown Korea with some of the other teachers. It was amazing, so different to any other city I have been in and also sooo many people. We didnt do a lot, we had lunch in a place called ItalyItaly where you had to fill in little slips with what you wanted. It sure made ordering a lot easier. They also did heart shaped pizzas, I will have to go back and try one. Saturday night we had a wine and nibbles party at one of the other teachers flats who lives in the same building. Koreans seem to have a very sweet tooth. Their wine, even red wine which is supposed to be dry, was sickly sweet. We played card games for 3 hours or so and moved on to the Soju, which depressingly had very little effect on me.

Incidentally there is another teacher working for the same school in South Korea who also went to Bangor. He also lived on the street behind me. It is a small world. (I have been singing that all weekend)

Yesterday the gas people decided, in their infinate wisdom, to turn my gas off. This was apparently because the landlady hasnt told them I was moving in. All sored now though. It did mean that I didnt have any hot water so I had to go beg a shower off one of the other teachers, which is interesting when you have only known someone a week.

Today (11/11)at home is rememberence day. Here in Korea it is pepero day. A pepero is basically a biscuit sticks dipped in a variety of different flavours. They give out these biscuits kinda like valentines day cards. Its very bizarre.
