As a recipient of the Travel Photography Scholarship to Oman, I would seek to gain a better understanding of travel photojournalism from the experts who know it best. I can envision myself working alongside Jason Edwards, learning from him and his co-workers, and bettering both my photographs and my shooting methods. I have never had the opportunity to truly learn from a professional travel photographer like Jason Edwards, so, for an aspiring photojournalist like me, spending eight days under his tutelage would be a dream come true. Moreover, I am enthusiastic to constantly challenge myself to take better and better photographs, and a trip to Oman would take me outside of my comfort zone of Washington, D.C. and allow me to visually explore a new culture and society I have never visited before. The Middle East is a fascinating place—rich with history, culture, and religious significance. To perfect my photojournalism skills in such a unique place would be an amazing opportunity for me to expand both my photojournalism skills and my cultural understanding of the world in which I live.
