Cats like me always land on one's feet

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

In the event of rediscovering and rekindling a relationship with a long-lost grandmother, I realized two things: the value of time and its diminishing effect in pursuing dreams and passions. There’s no time limit in doing what you want to do in life. However, time is precious; it does matter how you choose to spend that time given to you.

My grandmother moved to a nice area close to the beach where there is good weather and not a lot of action. This is where a lot of retired people live and reap the fruits of their hard-earned labor. I admire the fragility of old people in modern times and how they choose to enjoy the last moments of their lives. I hope the scenes of women watching sunset, rush hour at the coast, the beach on Memorial Day, the streets and the preservance of the neighborhood show you the world I am in now and the characters that abound it; because people define and make a place.

I have been taking care of my multicultural family from an early age. It gave me opportunities to travel often and broaden my horizons of the world. Now for the first time in my life I am able to spend time in photography. I bought my first camera and open my photography books. I knew it was the beginning of a great journey.

This contest was the perfect opportunity to try my hand, put aside the film business where I worked as a producer and become more artistic . It’s such a challenge to document the place I live in since I’m a part of it; For me it’s easier to do that in places I visit.

I am working on an Ecuadorian documentary and hoping Buthan will be my next destiny.
