Many peasants in this village raise sheep to sell for their wool and meat. Obedient creatures, the sheep are let out of their pens once a day to run circles around the village paths for a spot of exercise.

Young Pan-Pan, like most village children, begins her day before dawn with a list of chores. She walks to her family’s plot of farmland to harvest alfalfa for their sheep to eat. As the sun crests the horizon, she is on her way back home now, her small feet pressing deep into the earth with the weight of her load.

Traditional village weddings are changing and becoming more Westernized, but are not yet altogether eradicated. Here, musicians in a wedding band take a break in the shade. They have accompanied the bride as she rides on a donkey from her house to her husband’s house where she will now live. Each of them was taught by his father how to play his instrument and the traditional types of music.
