Spying is a treasured pastime of young Korean boys. Curious children often licked their fingers and carefully pressed against the translucent paper doors of their neighbors. The circular child-made hole was then torn wider to accommodate the eyes of fellow accomplices. If they were lucky, or if the resident was hard of seeing and hearing, the mischievous crew often went unpunished.

In times of poverty, people become resourceful out of necessity. Bags of food aid from the international community not only helped stave off the hunger of a war-torn nation, but the bags themselves were used for a variety of purposes. After each use, these bags, like clothes, were washed by hand and hung to dry.

The best bicycles have storage racks in the back - useful for transporting materials as well as dates. The bumpy roads helped with the romance; the passenger was often forced to cling tightly to the pedaler. In the developing cities of Korea, walls peppered with advertisements and political campaign posters were a common sight.
