Making a difference – that’s what my aim in life is – and that’s what the Umthathi Sustainability Project is doing!  Located in Grahamstown, Umthathi serve what is considered to be the poorest South African province, the Eastern Cape.  With the philosophy of “empowering people to choose their own way of life” Umthathi endeavour to impart basic sustainability skills to the general populace.  Their focus is on vegetable and indigenous plant cultivation, from which stems nutritional and health care, and financial advising as participants expand growing a surplus.  The people Umthathi’s knowledge reach is forever growing as people who have been through their programme are encouraged to share their acquired skills – thus contributing to enriching their communities.  Like Umthathi, I strive to make an impact, focusing on development through my photography.   In this, I endeavour to bring about awareness and change for the better!   By gaining experience and tips from National Geographic Photographer Jason Edwards, would benefit not only myself but the communities that I endeavour to bring a positive change!
