Living at the top of the world

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

India | Monday, October 31, 2011 | 4 photos

These photos were taken in Ladakh, an amazing place in the far north of India. it is considered the roof of the world as it's at such a high altitude. The photos were taken on different occasions while I was traveling and represents life, spirituality and the great openness that is Ladakh. I'd suddenly see something interesting and aim my camera which was always in my hands, ready to shoot anything interesting.

I am a writer; a poet, playwright and fiction writer of Sri Lankan origin who loves to travel. If I could afford it I'd live in a different country every year, tasting the different tastes, taking in the strange smells, sights and living like one among the people. I love reading about places and people and also taking photos to remember all my travels and experiences. My favorite animal shots were in the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela, Sri Lanka and Guruvayur Temple in Kerala and a photo of a sleepy lion at Okavango. I also like photographing scenery, people and interesting places.

Ever since I bought my first SLR in 2002 with a great zoom I've been aiming it at each and everything I could see, clicking at everything in sight. I'd love to win this contest as I'd be able to learn from a pro about how to take better photos which is what life is all about; lasting memories caught on film. And I hope I'd get the opportunity to take a photo of a yawning lion!
