Indigenous market in Otavalo

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Ecuador | Wednesday, January 9, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Simon Avbar and I’m from Slovenia. After college I worked in some companies, but currently I am unemployed, so I use my time to photograph. For me photography is something that pushes me to the limit: sometimes I stay all day under the rain, just waiting for the right moment. And when I finally get the right shot it really amazes me. Sometime even makes me smile out loud or cry.

During my last trip in Ecuador I spent 4 day in a small city called Otavalo. It has the biggest indigenous market in South America and I was just fascinated by it. I met a couple of indigenous people and I was just surprised at the way they live and how they manage to survive with so little. That’s why I like to travel to these kind of countries, because at the end it drives me to live a simpler, less complicated life.

My wish is to have enough time to travel around the world to different continents and meet new people and feel their positive vibrations. It would be a great honor to get a chance to travel with a professional photographer in such a beautiful country and learn how to take pictures that can tell a story and maybe make a difference.
