My Scholarship entry - The old stays while a new generation prevails

Myanmar | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I am an avid climber strapped to my doctoral research in cancer biology. I look to rejuvenate when I am in the wilderness, to see living on this planet with a bigger perspective and to continue preserving in my daily calling. Having manage to squeeze in traveling in the last few years, I have started picking up photography and was deeply moved and aware of my love for nature when I lived in Australia a few years back. However in my years there, I was also more keenly aware of other issues such as modern day slavery and what it means to be a responsible consumer. My hope is for people in South East Asia to be also conscious of the origins of products we use as well as the prevalent human trade around us- Singapore. Although cheesy, a big part of my inspiration to travel, advocate, good healthcare and medicine comes from Motorcycle Diaries. I hope to hone my skills in photography and to build "consciousness" while traveling. Because I believe photography is a powerful tool to uphold and remind us of issues be it related to humanity or the environment. My hope for next year after I graduate will be exactly that.
