My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Wednesday, August 18, 2010 | 5 photos

The photographs in my gallery were taken in Brighton, along the beach and pier on the 11th August 2010. They are examples of the sights I experienced that day that held some personal significance to me. Each photograph features subjects that were unaware of my presence, as I believe this captures a raw, more interesting image than those that are pre-constructed or composed. The images are black and white because I like the contrast this creates on these particular images. However I am also confident at taking colour photographs.

I believe I should be chosen for the scholarship because, as a 20 year old geography student, I have what some may call an obsession with travelling and would love the opportunity to visit somewhere as magical as Bhutan. Despite being very interested in geography and cultural studies, I have come to realise that my true passion is photography and becoming a travel writer/photographer is my ultimate dream! Since the age of 13 I have always been accompanied by a camera, experimenting with digital and film, and have taught myself to use editing software such as Photoshop. My SLR is my constant companion, and I am not afraid to photograph anything –no matter how obscure- that holds interest to me. I post my photographs on Flickr and my blog, and have many stories to tell about them. This scholarship would not only help me to develop the skills I have, but also allow me to immerse myself in a new, alien environment, and share my experiences –and fascination with the beautiful and unusual- with others. If I am given the chance, I can honestly say that I will put my absolute all into it.
