The Thrills of Getting Lost

Getting lost was never one of my hobbies. The first time I got lost was at a carnival. I was engrossed in food and my parents in buying stuff.
RESULT: I go missing for the first time
MOTHER: Hysteric and Weeping
FATHER: Trying to do some rapid thinking
ME: Busy eating with some other family
That's how it all started fellas
The other notable ‘gone missing’ incident in school was when I’d ended up in a new town altogether. Slept off in the bus..only to get down in Puri instead of Bhubaneswar. This time Mom was cool..she knew I will turn up somewhere..somehow.
As a teenager I kept getting lost on a regular basis. In fact I was getting to be a pro at it. This time the escapades were with a gang of buddies. All of us with a cumulative road sense in the negative used to forget roads without fail. The icing in the cake would be all of us pointing in different directions and yelling out “This way”.Cut to Nepal..Thamel Street to be more specific. We were promised the finest street food in Nepal and we took the bait. Lost again only to end up in one of the darkest nooks of the town selling all sorts of what not. Scared out of his wits a buddy bought everything that was thrust upon his face by the salesmen. His shopping that day included 3 identical wallets and 2 kukri’s.
I was getting restless..Had to discover why I kept getting lost.
Asked my mother if father used to do the same.
“Your father could conjure up roads out of nowhere. He was brilliant”
There goes my genetic angle I thought.
Asked her if she had accidentally bumped my head somewhere as a kid.“No” was her curt reply followed by a glare
All theories to explain my road sense were taking a severe beating. Then it came to me as a bolt from the blue.A smile and a smirk.I had an answer for all the questions.
Same Q with a new A
Why do you get lost so often?
I love getting lost. Have you ever lost your way and explored new avenues. It’s incredibly thrilling.
Salvation at last!
All my tragic escapades were turning into popular tales of adventure. The Nepal story was a huge hit so was the Puri incident. People wanted more stories. I was being asked about new roads/ food joints/ hangouts!
Latest adventure: Getting lost in the Churchgate area of Mumbai and roaming about for 2 hours on foot looking for an office. (It was right beside the railway station where I had gotten down).Churchgate area has some neat food joints and queer shops by the way.
I LOVE GETTING LOST…Join in
