Shifting Shutters

Meheeco: Through the eyes of a Mexican-American artist; a supposed drug-war-torn country.

USA | Friday, January 11, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Arturo Olmos. I am from the U.S. and currently attend Pratt Institute, where I study Photography and strive to expand my knowledge of art. When I was young the thought that we will never feel or describe, absolutely, an experience to someone else, always frustrated me, until I came to the realization that that is actually a beautiful thing. It is incredible that we all bare different memories and or feelings and we apply those to our world around us, constructing infinite amounts of narrative. For me, this is the beauty in photographs; that they will always be different for everyone, even to me because I too am changing. This is how I became interested in the art. Photography for me became the range in experiences between my brain, my eyes, my camera, my subject and all the way back to my sensor or film. It has always been a new endeavor that I am more than happy to be a part of. There are ideas that keep me up at night; that wake me up in the morning; that motivate me to continue to squint my left eye and open my right; to keep endlessly shifting shutters. Those ideas are why I believe I should be chosen. I have ambition and determination, all I lack is the opportunity.
