New York city/ Manhattan

Canada is a multi-cultural society, and although I love my Country it was a culture shock to visit New York city. In a way the big apple transformed me because for the first time in my life I felt as though I was the norm, instead of being an outsider. Through my multi-cultural filter, I was astounded to be smack dab in the middle of a melting pot. I had always been teased for being different in the small town I grew up in. Then in the city, I didn’t fit in because it seemed that everyone was from another country. So many beautifully diverse and distinct cultures tightly huddled in their own communities. In high school it was the same. Except, I was mixed race. I existed between the cultural lines. In New York, now this was a new experience. So many faces looked like mine, I seemed to blend in perfectly against the city scape. The hustle and bustle of the streets thrived with the sounds of taxi cabs; cars and people everywhere. People said New Yorkers are unfriendly, not true. I found New Yorkers were too busy on their grind to care but generally delightful and helpful. I felt safe and accommodated, all the time. I held firmly to my money, not for fear I would be robbed but because everything was so expensive. I found that being frugal was the way to go because there was so much to take in, better to try and do as much free stuff first. I don’t need to mention the nightlife, but I will. I say this with the biggest grin on my face. I have never had so much entertainment all at once, except maybe Los Anegles... nah. You can literally party all night long. There is always an event, several...then an afterparty, then the afterparty for the after party…every night of the week. NYC is my gem, it’s a place I could go back to again and again and still feel like I haven’t had enough. Its a city for the insatiable socialite.
