My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

For me, travel journalism is about capturing the people and places in their ‘natural’ and ‘raw’ state. Capturing life as it occurs on a regular basis without bias, without placing my view of the world upon them, but rather, learning about the world through them. Capturing the essence of a community, a moment, or a person through a photograph and seeing other people resonate with that picture. I aim to show the beauty of the world, the rapture, the truth that exists beyond what we can see in the places we currently live. I want to give people a chance to experience and feel the emotion from where they currently are and perhaps inspire them to also see the world as it is and not as they wish it to be.
I believe the world has endless teaching opportunities and shooting unknown places and people awakens my appreciation for the world I know so little of. As an aspiring photojournalist I seek to understand what others can teach me, what they can offer me and how the truth of their lives can be conveyed in an image. Through this mentorship I wish to strengthen my technique and convey my honesty through photographs. In my career I wish to inspire others and convey its beauty.
