My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Canada | Friday, October 8, 2010 | 5 photos
My photographs capture my experience spent living three incredible months in the Canadian winter. Fresh out of school, my friend and I decided to embark on an overseas adventure, where we would work as food court attendants in order to pay our bills and heckle locals in search for mountains that had waist-deep snow. The journey was not only physical, but also a metaphysical journey and gave me an immense sense of freedom, determination and independence. Each photo is a reflection of my journey, my learning/new love of snowboarding and my ever-to-be-ceased amazement of the purity of snow and nature. The aim of the photographs is to depict my perception and to recreate my experiences to the audience. I believe that the intent of photography is to capture a moment in time and convey a message, story or memory with that certain frame. I would love to learn and practice the elements associated with photography if chosen for the scholarship. With new ideas and skills learned, my desire would be to share my subjects and experiences with an insightful approach, to learn something new every day – not only about photography itself, but also about the subject, history and environment around me; and to travel the world, encountering life changing memories and experiences.
