My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Mozambique | Monday, September 13, 2010 | 5 photos
I am an avid traveller of this diverse world of ours, with a special affinity for Africa which is a continent of great beauty, warmth, generosity but also sadness, poverty and war. I would love to find away to incorporate my passion for travel and obsession for getting to know the true story behind the people living in places so different from where I currently live in Brisbane Australia.
The photos I have selected are about beauty in Africa. The beauty of the children who smile so brightly in conditions of poverty. The strength and beauty of the animals free to roam in the African bush and reserves. To me Africa is one of the most beautiful and unpredictable places on earth and one I struggle to leave behind each time I visit.
After living for the last six months in Northern Mozambique where these photos of the children were taken, I truly came to appreciate how little we actually need to be happy, but how much easier everything is for those of us lucky enough to be born into the developed rather than the developing world.
The kids in these photos don't need anything other than a soccer ball made out of plastic bags, or a tyre from a broken bicycle to make them smile. That to me is priceless when you see the children of developed nations crying over not having the latest toys or games. True beauty radiates from the soul of a person, and these kids are all indeed, beautiful souls.
