About shanehannon
My name is Shane Hannon and I am a 21-year-old from a small town in Ireland. I am a 2015 graduate of English and History from University College Dublin (UCD) and I also have a Diploma in Radio Production from the Today FM School of Radio, the training section of Ireland's largest commercial radio station.
I have various experiences in student journalism, having been Sports Editor of my university newspaper, The University Observer. For the past year I have also been the Co-editor of its Arts and Culture supplement magazine, Otwo. I have always had a keen interest in writing and the media, as well as news and current affairs, and I write on many different topics in my spare time.
I enjoy meeting and interviewing interesting people with intriguing stories, and have had the pleasure of interviewing astronauts who have walked on the Moon (including Buzz Aldrin), Hollywood actors, Olympians and international sportspeople, activists, and even a Holocaust survivor.
I enjoy travelling and went on an InterRailing trip across Europe for a month in Summer 2014 - starting in Amsterdam and taking in Berlin (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic), Krakow (Poland), Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Bratislava (Slovakia), Llubljana and Lake Bled (Slovenia) and Split (Croatia). I entered this Travel Writing Scholarship competition not just for the experience, but also because I would love to develop my travel writing skills in a hands-on way - and who wouldn't want to travel throughout the U.S. for 10 days!
*If anyone would like any further advice on trekking the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain or would like to get in touch about any other matter, please feel free to do so.
