My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Hong Kong | Monday, June 24, 2013 | 5 photos
My name is Shane Chong and I am from Singapore. I am drawn to photography by its amazing ability to reveal the unexpected and it has been my desire to document these micro-moments.
I was exposed to photography at a very young age, used to play with my father’s camera in the 90s and my mum worked at Rollei back then which ignited curiosity in my mind through multiple senses. I recalled the first time taking a picture of my parents, now looking back at the photo I realised how everything ages and only memories stay.
When I received my first camera, I discovered another avenue to express myself. That was the moment where I learnt to take the time to observe and appreciate many things in life. My dance experiences in my polytechnic days, gave me a new visual angle to explore between movements and emotions.
In the quest of pursuing the beauty in life, I have learnt to let my inquisitive self take over, and that have made me try out all sorts of people photography. Currently, I’m under-going a personal project on capturing the lifestyles of people in other countries.
I hope to be able to able to make full use of this opportunity to travel and document another story, another perspective and experience something fresh.
