I believe there is something simply romantic about railways and train station. In the past, it was an eminent triumph of human civilization and the witness of world revolution. Today rail transportation is widely seen as common thing, but the existence of this place reveals truly the essence of time and thus inspires me of people story in life.
Through this series of photos, I would like to present some perspectives about time and how it frames our stories in such a common place: In the station, time feels heavy. Trains arrive and depart. People meet and part. Someone waits to kill the time, other races to catch the time. Small moments may insignificantly pass without notice. But they are the proof we are living and the footprint of where we are heading. How much longer time we have? Do we give enough time to reflect? Time is all we have which separates human from their destiny, whatever it is.
I strongly have faith that photography is a powerful tool to tell a story, to raise awareness and thus engaging humanity. However, I do feel that photography is also about how deep you can discover yourself, your beingness in relation with other entities in this universe – people, animals, nature, time and places. And knowing this impulse, the call to capture a story will always be there. At least for me, it will always be there.
Finally, I would like to highlight my eagerness to win this competition. I’m convinced that my passion, adventurous and hard-working personality are what this photography scholarship is looking for. It’s my biggest dream to discover the land of the wilds - Africa, and learning further about photography directly from the expert will surely be a lifetime experience that will change my life.
