About sflynn
I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire. From an early age the natural world amazed me. I spent countless hours exploring the lakes, swamps, trees and mountains that surrounded me. There was so much to see in such a relatively small space. The rest of the world seemed so vast. I never left the country until I was twenty, and I was ok with that. I loved my home--the place where my curiosity grew. That being said, choosing to go to college at American University in Washington, DC gave me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and explore the amazing places the rest of the world has to offer. I ventured down to Ecuador and the Galapagos, where I swam with sea turtles and watched blue footed boobies dance. I then spent six months studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. There I tramped across the beautiful countryside made famous by Lord of the Rings. I discovered kiwi birds at dusk, and leopard seals on the beach, and even performed the Haka, a Maori tradition. I graduated from American in May 2011 and spent the summer after graduation leading teenagers on explorations of Alaska's backcountry. We kayaked in Prince William Sound and watched a grizzly chase after a moose in the Chugach Mountains. All of these trips took place in the course of two years. It has been quite a whirlwind. Now it's time to find a new adventure.
