Leaving Home

FRANCE | Thursday, 3 January 2008 | Views [284]

Well, after the hassle of a mammoth plane ride and trying to navigate our way through Parisian back streets in the freezing weather with heaving suitcases and WAY too much hand language (fault mostly of Andrew) we found ourselves in the quaint little city of Strasbourg which lies on the border of France and Germany.

It's a lot like the town of Bolzano, in Italy, with its German influence especially in the architecture, but their is certainly the French flair, especially among the people. The food is good, but it is not as French as Paris, which is unfortunate in some ways as the menus are not as French as they could be, if that makes any sense.

Our little hotel room/ apartment is nice and cosy and warm! We're going to start looking for a more permanent resident tomorrow, after the jetlag has worn off a bit more.

We're both speaking as much French as we can, well to be honest Andrew is speaking more than me, but that is to be expected :).

The weather is certainly a shock after an Australian summer, even one as mild as the last. The top temperature for today was minus 1 celcius and although snow was predicted I think it ended up being too cold. It makes my head ache its so cold, but Andrew seems to be used to it and it doesn't seem to bother him too much.

Overall, it is a strange but exciting feeling to be here, after all those months of planning and stressing it never really felt like it would come, but here we are. It's a very strange feeling.

Love, Sarah xo
