A Monk In The World

My Scholarship entry - Tibetan Monks of India

Hi!
My name is Seth and I am a 31 year old Buddhist monk from Boston.
After graduating art school in 2005 I traveled to Germany where I ordained a monk and spent 8 years learning meditation, Buddhist philosophy, and developing the wish to be a force of good in the world. I recently spent 6 months in India where I re-realized the great joy of documenting powerful moments and places through photography.
I am deeply interested and intrigued by your offer. The purity and richness of the Rain Forest has held a special place in my heart since childhood and I also have had a long standing wish to visit Peru and contact the ancient cultures there. The chance to photograph these people and places sounds like a life-changing experience. I am especially moved that you will be traveling to places where conservations efforts are being raised. I always feel quite helpless in the face of the destruction of such beautiful and important places and this would be a chance for me to really lend a helping hand and to use photography as a way to share the message with the rest of world. It feels like a very important assignment.
I would be honored (and thrilled) to be chosen to join and to hone my craft.
