My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

When the World Nomads Travel Photography Scholarship Competition 2010 was announced, I knew fate was beckoning me. This is THE perfect way to combine my passion for photography and travel whilst simultaneously giving back to the world! My thirst for adventure will lead me to Bhutan, the land of my dreams, where my ambition to be a professional travel photographer will be realised!

My burning passion for photography is so great, that I spent the last 6 weeks trying to capture stories from my trip to Bangladesh this year, which include women gossiping in a rural kitchen, my Aunt marrying in a traditional Bengali ceremony, Muslim villagers celebrating Eid-al-fitr, devotional prayer at a famous mosque, and finally, our newlywed neighbours doing their laundry with love in their eyes. My pictures have passion, heart, emotion, colour, movement, love, warmth, poignancy and even spirituality - I believe I my photographs in Bhutan will encapsulate these qualities.

The reason I chose Bangladesh for my entry is because she enjoys a long standing friendship with Bhutan since independence in 1971. Like Bhutan, Bangladesh remains an undiscovered and true hidden gem. I will bring Bhutan to the world with pride and joy, placing an emphasis on it's pristine ecology.

My studies in Italy, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Japan (all scholarships) and extensive volunteer work with refugees and orphans in Australia and Bangladesh, have resulted in my intercultural awareness, exemplary cross-cultural communication skills, sensitivity, self-management and leadership.

Having completed an internship at the Australian Consulate-General, New York, I am capable of representing Australia on an international level and fostering friendship between Australia and Bhutan, making friends and winning people's hearts, through photography and interaction.

In addition to this, I will emphasise the utmost importance of environmentally sustainable tourism. Having studied tourism in-depth in Japan, I am in a good position to educate people. This scholarship will challenge me, as it requires stories and visions through images, not words. I have the drive to pursue stories.

I believe Jason and I will make a fantastic team as well as good friends. I am keen to learn all I can from him about photography, travel and fulfill my destiny in Bhutan.
