My scholarship entry- Around the Corner: Art of Montreal

Canada | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos

I have always had an interest in visual media and the many ways photography can convey the complexities of reality. I’ve always admired the way organizations like National Geographic can convey the importance of scientific discovery and environmental issues through photography and it is my passion and career interest to mimic that work through education. When I take a photograph, I want it to appear how it is so the that the full spectrum of interpretation can be captured as best as it can be. The beautiful and exciting part of making images is they mean something different to all of us. You can label your work to lead the eye and the opinion, but in the end, the viewer is struck by something only they can explain. I take photos of the things that to me, can’t be ignored. I hope that when I do capture my image I’m able to convey what makes it worthwhile. This is why I think images of the environment are so important and striking. I see this opportunity as once in a lifetime to learn from a true photographer, learn how to capture images of reality, and improve my own technique. I work hard at everything I do because I want to be able to be proud of myself and work I produce.
