My Scholarship entry - TrueGold

Costa Rica | Wednesday, November 5, 2014 | 5 photos

Last year I spent 2 months in Costa Rica; I had a nervous breakdown before leaving and that's also one of the reasons why I left. I'm a storyteller, I work as filmmaker/film editor with a huge love & devotion for photography and I'm based in London. The year before leaving had been very tough so I decided to go to leave as I needed to look for a part of myself that I could not find anymore. I brought my Nikon with 2 film rolls because it wasn't my intention to "work" over there but just to get back a connection that seemed to be gone. That's why I think of all the pictures that I didn't take; I was taking something else, I needed gold for my spirit and gold is what I found. The perfect geometries that some odd snails draw on the sand, the perfection of a flock of pelicans, the magic of the tides, the monkeys howling in the forest, the shining eye of the crocodile emerging from the dark water at night, the most beautiful tones of green and blue and pink and yellow and waves and trees and nothing to eat but the fish I could fish and nothing to drink but coconuts from the tree. With such a great mentor as Mr Edwards I could improve my knowledge and finally take those pictures.
