My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My two great passions in life are traveling and photography. Often I feel that they are really one and the same passion; I could never travel without a camera and even when going out into the backyard or down the street, looking at life through the lens makes it feel like an adventure.
Many people say they like to live vicariously through my photographs. While to me the journey is one of the most important aspects, I think that sharing my photographs and experiences in this way, and what it means to the people with whom I share, is one of the greatest contributions I will make to the world.
Photography challenges me constantly. Most every trip I take, I discover something new that I enjoy or a new way to photograph a difficult situation. I can revisit some of the same places over and over and always come away with something fresh.
The northern world has always enchanted me, which is why I moved to Alaska from New England. The opportunity to travel to Greenland, and learn skills and techniques that I could apply in my own state of Alaska is the opportunity of a lifetime. It would be such a privilege to learn from a National Geographic photographer. Thank you for your consideration!
